NTTU – After five days of highly professional, rigorous, transparent, and impartial work conducted by AUN-QA experts with Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the closing session of the 255th AUN-QA external assessment for four academic programs was held on the morning of January 21, 2022, at the An Phu Dong Campus, District 12.
The closing session continued to be conducted online with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gerardo L. Largoza (De La Salle University, Philippines), Head of the Assessment Team, along with assessors including Mr. Prem Anand M. Arjunan (Malaysia), Dr. Dhiyathad Prateeppornnarong (Thailand), Prof. Dr. Rosemary Seva (Philippines), Mr. Mean Udam (Cambodia), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anan Mungwattana (Thailand), Ms. Cynthia P. San Diego (Philippines), and AUN Secretariat representative Ms. Monsiri Chintanavisit. Representing Nguyen Tat Thanh University were Dr. Tran Ai Cam, President; Dr. Tran Thien Luu, Vice President; along with faculty members, staff, and representatives from the four faculties whose programs were assessed during this review.
According to the agreed schedule, the AUN-QA assessors reviewed supporting evidence for the self-assessment reports, inspected facilities, and met with faculty leaders of the four academic programs: Food Technology, Biotechnology, Automotive Engineering Technology, and Accounting. They also worked with self-assessment report teams and stakeholders from the four programs, including students, alumni, lecturers, support staff, and employers, to evaluate the quality of the programs in accordance with AUN-QA guidelines regarding curriculum, resources, outputs, and achievements.
During the closing session, the lead assessors and AUN-QA experts presented their preliminary findings, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the four programs under review. They noted that:
- The programs were designed to meet stakeholder requirements and benchmarked against international accreditation standards such as ABET and AACSB.
- All programs are aligned with the University’s vision and mission.
- The programs incorporate the educational philosophy of “Learning by Doing” and experiential learning, which help develop students’ professional ethics and practical competencies.
- The library system and laboratories adequately support student learning.
- Faculty members and support staff effectively facilitate scientific research and experiential learning activities.
In addition, the University maintains a robust internal quality assurance system that regularly collects feedback from students, alumni, faculty members, staff, and employers to continuously improve educational quality. Graduates enjoy a high employment rate, and employers highly value their knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes. The University also continues to innovate teaching methods, assessment practices, and benchmarking activities against international programs. Efforts are being made to enhance faculty qualifications, particularly English proficiency, to adapt to the current international environment. These initiatives align with Nguyen Tat Thanh University’s development strategy for the period 2020–2025 and its vision toward 2035.
Speaking at the closing session, Dr. Tran Ai Cam, President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, shared:
“As a relatively young private university, we recognize the many challenges in today’s context. With a young yet dedicated team of faculty and staff, the University is committed to digital transformation and continuous improvement in line with Education 4.0. We sincerely appreciate the valuable comments and recommendations provided for the four academic programs. These assessments serve as an important foundation for improving quality and developing a roadmap for enhancing educational excellence.”
From September 2019 to January 2022, Nguyen Tat Thanh University had a total of eight academic programs assessed according to AUN-QA standards, including Food Technology, Biotechnology, Automotive Engineering Technology, Accounting, Information Technology, Finance and Banking, English Language, and Business Administration. Of these, four programs had already achieved AUN-QA accreditation in 2019: Information Technology, Finance and Banking, English Language, and Business Administration.
Participation in these external assessment activities not only aims to improve the quality of education at the University but also provides an opportunity to strengthen and affirm Nguyen Tat Thanh University’s position on the educational map at the national, regional, and international levels.
