Two Academic Programs at Nguyen Tat Thanh University Awarded UPM Star Ratings

NTTU – The University Performance Metrics (UPM) benchmarking and ranking system for universities in Vietnam and the region has announced the star ratings for 18 academic programs from universities across the country. Among them, the Information Technology and Restaurant Management and Food Service programs of Nguyen Tat Thanh University were recognized with outstanding performance and included in this star-rating list.

Accordingly, the Information Technology program was awarded 4 Stars Plus, ranking among the top six programs in the rankings. It received 5-star ratings in the criteria of Strategic Alignment, University Ecosystem, and Academic Program; 4-star ratings in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, and Community Service; and a 3-star rating in Internationalization.

The Restaurant Management and Food Service program was awarded 3 Stars Plus, receiving a 5-star rating for University Ecosystem, while Strategic Alignment, Teaching and Learning, Community Service, and Academic Program each received 4-star ratings.

With these results, Nguyen Tat Thanh University is currently the only private university in Vietnam with academic programs included in the UPM star-rating rankings.

The UPM Star Rating is assessed based on 44 criteria grouped into seven standards:

• Strategic Alignment (8 criteria)
• Teaching and Learning (11 criteria)
• Research and Innovation (7 criteria)
• University Ecosystem (5 criteria)
• Internationalization (4 criteria)
• Community Service (3 criteria)
• Distinctiveness (6 criteria)

The star-rating system provides an authentic and positive picture of quality, delivering useful and multidimensional information to stakeholders, including universities, students, employers, and policymakers. Universities participating in the UPM Star Rating have the opportunity to benchmark their quality against peer institutions. In doing so, they not only affirm their own value but also take an important step toward continuous improvement and enhanced quality.

These are the first two undergraduate academic programs at Nguyen Tat Thanh University to receive UPM star ratings. This achievement reflects the University’s continuous investment in facilities, faculty development, educational quality enhancement, graduate employment support, and the promotion of scientific research throughout its years of operation and development.

According to Dr. Tran Ai Cam, President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, these results will provide a solid foundation for the University to better analyze its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges in order to achieve the key objectives outlined in its development strategy and pursue even higher goals. The achievement is also a well-deserved recognition of the University’s sustained efforts in educational quality assurance and accreditation over recent years.

In August 2020, the University Performance Metrics (UPM) benchmarking and ranking system for universities in Vietnam and the region also awarded Nguyen Tat Thanh University a 4-star institutional rating. According to UPM, 4-star universities are institutions with strong reputations at both the national and regional levels.

UPM, which stands for University Performance Metrics, is a higher education quality benchmarking system established by a research group from Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It was developed to meet the demands of innovation and adaptation to the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Vietnam. UPM conducts rankings in the following areas:

• Research Performance Index of higher education institutions;
  
• Publication Scale Index of higher education institutions;
• Average Publications per Faculty Member Index;
• Average Citation Index;
• Institutional Research Capacity Index;
• UPM Star Ratings.
