THE IMPACT Rankings 2024: Nguyen Tat Thanh University Makes Its Debut in the 301–400 Band

At 6:00 a.m. BST (12:00 p.m., Vietnam time) today, June 12, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the THE Impact Rankings 2024—the ranking of higher education institutions (HEIs) based on their impact on sustainable development.

Unlike the traditional THE and QS rankings, which evaluate institutions primarily through a number of output indicators, the THE Impact Rankings assess higher education institutions based on the extent of their contributions and impact on society through the implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The fundamental criteria of the rankings include:

Research: Evaluates the quantity and quality of research aligned with and relevant to each SDG, based on Scopus data.
Stewardship: Assesses how universities manage and utilize their resources to promote sustainable development within the institution and the wider community.
Outreach: Evaluates how universities collaborate with communities, governments, and other organizations to support and advance the SDGs.
Teaching: Assesses universities’ educational and training activities in preparing students with knowledge and understanding related to the SDGs.

This year, 2,152 higher education institutions from 125 countries participated in the THE Impact Rankings. Nguyen Tat Thanh University made its first appearance in the rankings, earning an overall score of 76/100 and placing in the 301–400 band.

Among the SDGs, the University achieved particularly strong results in the following areas:

SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Ranked 101–200 out of 1,498 institutions, with a score of 76.7, compared with the global average of 53.2. A notable highlight was its research related to health sciences and well-being, which received 89.4 points.
SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions): Ranked 201–300 out of 1,086 institutions, with a score of 69.0, exceeding the global average of 54.1. The research criterion achieved a score of 79.6.
In particular, Nguyen Tat Thanh University achieved its highest score in SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), receiving 80.6 points—well above the global average of 52.5—and ranking 201–300 out of 2,031 institutions.

Scores for selected indicators include:

Sustainability Report: 89.2 points
Research quantity and quality: 86.4 points
Level of collaboration and support in advancing the SDGs: 81.1 points

Speaking from Bangkok, where she was attending the Global Sustainable Development Congress and the THE Impact 2024 Exclusive Live Reveal, jointly organized by Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and Times Higher Education, Dr. Tran Ai Cam, President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, shared:
