Nguyen Tat Thanh University has utilized self-assessment as a tool for quality improvement. Through the self-assessment process, all staff, lecturers, and employees have increasingly gained clearer awareness of the role of quality assurance activities and quality accreditation in higher education; the University has continued to consolidate its internal quality assurance system and has initially formed a quality culture at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. The self-assessment process helps the University and each unit across the University identify strengths and shortcomings in order to develop policies, measures, and improvement plans, adjust resources, and modify implementation processes to achieve the established objectives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Self-assessment (SA) is a necessary condition for the University to register for external assessment and request recognition of meeting quality standards from an educational quality accreditation organization. In addition, SA and the request for recognition of quality standards also demonstrate the University\u2019s autonomy and accountability in all activities of training, scientific research, and community service according to its assigned functions and responsibilities, in accordance with its defined vision and mission.<\/span><\/p>\n

To date, the University has completed two cycles of institutional quality accreditation:<\/span><\/p>\n

The first quality accreditation cycle (2012\u20132016):<\/span><\/h3>\n

The University conducted self-assessment activities in accordance with the issued plan, and the University\u2019s Self-Assessment Report was prepared in compliance with the guidelines in Official Letter No. 462\/KTK\u0110CLGD-K\u0110\u0110H; the report was submitted to the governing authority, namely the Quality Management Department \u2013 Ministry of Education and Training, and the University registered for external assessment and organized its implementation with an Educational Quality Accreditation Center. The results of the first accreditation cycle achieved the \u201cPassed\u201d level, accounting for 80.33%.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recommendations of the External Assessment Team were reviewed by the University through meetings and the implementation of improvement activities to address shortcomings and promote strengths in order to continuously improve quality. Based on the Development Strategy of Nguyen Tat Thanh University for the period 2016\u20132020 and the Strategic Target Table for work areas in the period 2018\u20132020, the University continued to implement post-external-assessment improvement activities through working groups and prepared the necessary conditions for the mid-cycle review report of the accreditation cycle in November 2019 for the five-year period 2017\u20132022.<\/span><\/p>\n

In accordance with regulations, after 2.5 years (midway through the accreditation cycle), the University conducted self-assessment activities, completed the mid-cycle report, and submitted it to the Educational Quality Accreditation Center. At the time of the mid-cycle report, the University had completed improvements for 124\/132 recommendations (reaching 93.9%) of the External Assessment Team. For several recommendations that had not yet been completed (under Standards 2, 7, 8, and 9), the University, through the working groups, continued to develop plans for implementation in 2020. By the end of 2021, when the University began the second-cycle institutional self-assessment, all recommendations of the External Assessment Team had been improved.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second quality accreditation cycle (2017\u20132021):<\/span><\/h3>\n

The University conducted self-assessment activities in accordance with the issued plan, and the University\u2019s Self-Assessment Report was prepared in compliance with the guidelines under Circular No. 12\/2017\/TT-BGD\u0110T dated May 19, 2017, issued by the Minister of Education and Training; the report was submitted to the governing authority, namely the Quality Management Department \u2013 Ministry of Education and Training, and the University registered for external assessment and organized its implementation with an Educational Quality Accreditation Center. The results of the second accreditation cycle achieved the \u201cPassed\u201d level, accounting for 97.3%.<\/span><\/p>\n

The recommendations of the External Assessment Team were reviewed by the University through meetings and improvement activities were implemented to address existing limitations and promote strengths in order to continuously improve quality on an annual basis. The results of post-external-assessment improvement activities at the institutional level for the 2023\u20132024 academic year are as follows: the strategic quality assurance area achieved 80% of the proposed plan; the system quality assurance area achieved 87.5% of the proposed plan; the functional implementation quality assurance area achieved 66.7% of the proposed plan; and the operational results area achieved 77.8% of the proposed plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The process of organizing and implementing post-external-assessment improvement activities over the past 2.5 years (up to the end of December 2024) has recorded positive results. Among the 118 recommendations from 25 standards of the External Assessment Team, the University has implemented, met requirements, and exceeded expectations in many areas, with 100\/118 recommendations having been addressed, accounting for 84.7%. Specifically: the strategic quality assurance area achieved 50% of the proposed plan; the system quality assurance area achieved 62.5% of the proposed plan; the functional implementation quality assurance area achieved 66.7% of the proposed plan; and the operational results area achieved 55.6% of the proposed plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the coming period, in addition to effectively implementing the recommendations of the External Assessment Team for institutional quality assessment, the University will continue to consolidate and develop activities based on the standards and criteria stipulated in the regulations on institutional quality standards under Circular No. 01\/2024\/TT-BGD\u0110T; consolidate and develop a human resource team with professional expertise, competencies, and practical occupational experience in accordance with Circular No. 12\/2024\/TT-BGD\u0110T; promote, enhance the effectiveness, and further disseminate activities related to innovative entrepreneurship, open educational resources, digital competencies, and other areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

These programs, activities, and targets will be reflected in the University Development Strategy document for the new period (after the University completes the review of the Development Strategy for the 2020\u20132025 period, with a vision to 2035).<\/span><\/p>\n
