Quality assurance perspective
According to the school’s quality philosophy, “quality is conformance.” The school identifies stakeholders such as students, staff, alumni, employers, prospective employers, and professional and social association.
“Quality is process” is the school’s motto. The school has conducted many PDCA cycles in quick succession. Until the target is accomplished, the previous cycle’s output is used as the input for the subsequent cycle. After attaining the objective, the school studies and assesses the outcomes in order to establish the next higher objective to pursue. The PDCA cycle of a school is comprised of planning, implementing, assessing, and improving, all of which are interdependent.
Since 2012, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has been developing and refining its internal Quality Assurance system and accrediting educational quality in line with national, regional, and worldwide standards. Three tiers comprise the University’s whole quality management system (Total Quality Management (TQM)): (1) strategy, (2) systems, and (3) tactics for monitoring, assessing, and supporting training activities, scientific research, and community service, which are devised, and applied in keeping with three fundamental viewpoints:
- Learners are at the core of all school activities.
- The school is always striving to enhance its quality in response to input from both internal and external stakeholders.
- Everyone in the school is responsible for participating in the school’s TQM system:
- At the strategic level, we develop quality policies, quality assurance plans, and quality assurance rules.
- At the system level, we design and distribute quality assurance methods and tools based on the PDCA cycle to all employees (lecturers and other University personnel) for implementation.
- At the system level, we design and distribute quality assurance methods and tools based on the PDCA cycle to all.
- At the tactical level, each year, the Quality Assurance Strategy is concretized into Quality objectives, which serves as the foundation for all units across the university to develop a work implementation plan, which includes (i) self-assessment, provision of training programs, (ii) enhancement of post-assessment activities outside the school level, (iii) database and Quality objectives, (iv) stakeholders information collection, and (v) Quality Assurance briefings and technical trainings.
